Also, I came back from the wound care center somewhat triggered. His toes and the bottoms of his feet have been turning bright red for quite some time (years). They go back to normal color when he lies flat. Now, ever since the strokes last august, they’ve been turning a blackish color which to me looks like frostbite or MF gangrene. (I have to suppress a panic attack just thinking about it) I can see it progressing it’s progressing so fast. I told them at the wound care center that I am concerned. They told me to take him to a vascular surgeon. So I asked his heart failure specialist for a recommendation and he said that he would order the tests for us. The tests showed that he has multiple blockages in both feet. Now we do have to go to the vascular surgeon and we were discussing that with the wound care doctor at his visit today. During this discussion I talked about his dad who had to get his entire leg amputated because it turned to gangrene. I talked/joked (except there clearly isn’t anything funny about this) about him not wanting to lose a leg or even toes and when we got in the car to drive home he asked to stop at a fast food place so he could get a fried chicken sandwich and a large fries.
And you know what? I did stop and get that for him. I can’t be expected to care if he doesn’t, right?
