Yesterday I was standing in the kitchen making dinner when I heard a few loud footsteps coming down the hall and stopping right next to the kitchen door I peaked over through the doorway and saw the husband leaning up against the wall shaking like a leaf. I idiotically asked “Are you OK?” and for the first time ever he said NO. I stepped toward him and began yelling for Josh but not fast enough. The husband went down. I’m sure he hit his head against the wall on his way down otherwise he was unharmed. Josh brought a chair over and eventually the husband was able to crawl into the chair and collect himself so that he could continue on down the hall to sit in the family room in front of the television. I asked him if he thought that perhaps he had gotten up too fast and head not allowed his blood pressure to get used to the change in position. He agreed that it was likely that that is what had happened. This is an ongoing problem for him he has low blood pressure which bottoms out when he stands up too quickly.
Today I noticed the husband wearing his sneakers in the house and I questioned him. I asked him if he had gone outside while I was running errands and he told me that he had put on his sneakers because he figured that he fell yesterday because his socks made the floor too slippery.
I don’t know how to respond during those moments that are crystal clear that the husband is living in some kind of altered reality. I know I feel angry but I am quite sure that anger will get me nowhere. I did not respond
