A few weeks ago, the boy scouts in our area had the big pine wood derby shin dig. One of the scout moms and her husband host a pine wood derby day where all the dads take their scouts to the handy husbands workshop and watch as he helps the scouts with their car. The scouts do the cutting, sanding, and weighing and come home with a car that is almost finished. Evan did a bit of internet research, admiring pine wood derby cars of the past before deciding on his own unique design. I glanced at his sketches, but didn't understand them. I sent him off thinking that he was in good hands, and would come home with some sort of handsome or fierce looking pine wood derby car. I had nothing to do with the shape of it and you can imagine my surprise when I, the gutter minded internet blog reader that I am, opened up his little blue plastic pine wood derby car case to see a car shaped like this:
