My parents have....ummmm... eclectic taste in art. Growing up it was always embarrasing to me to bring friends home and have to walk past the headless nude woman on black velvet painting that dominated our apartment. They had other paintings that I didn't understand, there was an "impressionist" piece, at least that what mom keeps telling me it is, which looked like a dead baby to me, and some landscapes that my dad swears should be worth something, except when we try to find the artist on the WORLD WIDE WEB, he is not mentioned anywhere. When I was a teenager and they redecorated they got really into this artist who would use lines of dried paint straight out of the tube, and air brush shadows under them so the paint blobs looked like they were floating. (And get this- my parents did NOT use recreational drugs!!) They also like holograms and hand made paper.
It should have been no surprise when Dad was captivated by this piece he came across in a local antique store while visiting us at the lake.
In case you are wondering.... it is tile, with Charles Dickens characters allegedly hand drawn on them. The yellow stain appears to be intentional and not the result of an angry cat. In any case it won't wash off. Dad just had to have it, the antique store lady charged him $40 instead of the $50 on the ticket. Dad swears a person would pay $400 for it. Mom isn't sure where she wants to put it, but I am thinking that Dads closet could use a little decorating.
